Filler dissolving, also known as hyaluronidase treatment, is a safe and effective procedure to remove unwanted hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Using an enzyme called hyaluronidase, this treatment breaks down hyaluronic acid fillers, allowing your body to absorb and eliminate them naturally within 24-48 hours. Hyaluronidase works by breaking the bonds between hyaluronic acid molecules, essentially ‘melting’ the filler.

It’s important to note that hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid fillers. It cannot dissolve other types of fillers such as calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse), poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra), polycaprolactone (Ellansé), or permanent fillers.

1. Does it hurt?

Filler dissolving is generally less uncomfortable than having filler placed. You’ll feel brief pinching or stinging during the injections, but most patients report minimal pain. Some describe a warm or tingling sensation as the enzyme works. Many patients don’t require numbing, though it’s available if you prefer.

2. When will I see results?

You’ll notice changes within 24-48 hours as the filler rapidly dissolves. The area may appear slightly swollen initially but then quickly improves as the dissolved filler is absorbed. Most patients see substantial results within 2-3 days, with final results at 1-2 weeks.

3. How long do results last?

The dissolving is permanent – once the hyaluronic acid filler is broken down and absorbed, it doesn’t return. Your appearance will revert to how you looked before having that particular filler treatment. If you want volume in that area again, you’ll need to have new filler placed. We recommend waiting 2-4 weeks before having new filler.

4. What's the cost?

Pricing ranges from £200-£400+ depending on the complexity and number of areas requiring dissolving. Small adjustments (like minor lip asymmetry) cost less, while full face corrections cost more.
